Tuesday Tip–Salt Reduction in Your Diet

Tuesday Tips by Tristi Pinkston:
I was asked to share some tips on how to reduce sodium in your diet.  Each of these tips is also found in Bless Your Heart, my low-sodium cookbook.

1.       Think about making food substitutions.  Buy the lower-sodium soy sauce, the no-salt-added vegetables, the lower-sodium soups and crackers, and get some Hain’s baking powder at the health food store, which will allow you to do all your baking while saving you scads of sodium in every serving.

2.      Experiment with herbs and spices to replace the salt.  There are a lot of other tastes out there to enjoy besides salty tastes!

3.      Concentrate on adding more produce to your diet.  The more fruits and vegetables you eat, and the more water you drink, the more sodium you can flush out of your system.

These are just a few ways you can start reducing sodium’s effect on your heart, but what a great start!!
